Celebrating 50 years of Fiber with our Customers

Bell Canada’s Dejan Mancic explains the benefits of Bell’s all-fiber network that covers seven provinces and brings high-speed internet to rural Canada. Optical fiber, he says, has “changed the core of how we send and receive data.”

Reflecting on the long-standing collaboration between Corning and Verizon, Lee Hicks, retired executive vice president at Verizon, says: "When I think about Corning and Verizon, the words 'true partnership' come to mind. … It's indisputable that together we have shown the world how to build fiber to the home."

Tara Mooar, a vice president of network engineering at Verizon, explains how optical fiber forms the foundation of networks around the globe, and is central to Verizon’s 5G network. If all of this can be achieved in 50 years, she asks, what new possibilities await for the next 50?

Gonzalo Reinoso, director of strategic marketing for WESCO | Anixter, reflects on his company's 35-year collaboration with Corning, and looks forward to "working together to connect every corner of our beloved region" with fiber optics.

These days we all rely on connectivity more than ever, says Gary Bolton, president of CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association. But even as we celebrate fiber's 50th anniversary, he notes that the job is not done, with more homes and businesses still to be connected: "We look forward to connecting the whole world with fiber optics."

Corning's invention of low-loss optical fiber 50 years ago transformed the industry, says Bill Mansfield, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Graybar, a leading North American distributor of telecommunications equipment. "We look forward to working with Corning for many years to come."

Fiber is "the foundation that makes the future possible," says Trevor Putrah, president of KGPCo, a communications product distribution and service solution provider. Corning's innovations have made it possible for KGPCo to build a portfolio of solutions to meet the ever-expanding technology needs of its customers, he says.

On the 50th anniversary of optical fiber, PCS Fiber reflects on decades of collaboration with Corning, including through the Network of Preferred Installers program, which ensures that technicians meet "the highest of deployment standards."

Corning’s optical innovations allow Crown Castle to serve a diverse customer base that includes wireless carriers, technology companies, public safety entities, educational institutions and health care systems with an infrastructure that spans more than 80,000 route miles, according to Chris Levendos, executive vice president and chief operating officer – fiber. “None of this would be possible without Corning’s landmark invention of optical fiber,” he says.
